A Contemporary Version of a Traditional House

The location of this home in a community of elegant historic houses on the north side of Chicago would seemingly dictate a Victorian aesthetic. But while the occupant appreciates historic architecture, his outlook is decidedly modern, and so is this new construction that seamlessly blends with the established character of the neighborhood. Foregoing ornament typical of past eras, the exterior incorporates traditional materials of stone, brick, wood and wrought iron into features such as corbelled cornices, arched masonry openings and bay windows that complement the surrounding homes. The interior is open and contemporary but with clearly defined spaces.
